Epsom & Ewell’s Over 55 Sporting Champions

A team of local over 55's represented the Rainbow Leisure Centre at the Better Club Games.

The 2019 Better Club Games took place last week at the Copper Box Arena, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park – and we’re pleased to announce that the Epsom & Ewell team scooped up the silver award for a second year in a row – congrats!

These locals represented our borough and took on the challenge of competing against hundreds of other over 55-year-olds from rival districts of London and the South East.

What did they get up to? Where do we start…this Olympic-style event included sports such as table tennis, darts, walking netball, badminton, timed cycling, dominoes and plenty more. The five-time Olympic swimmer, Mark Foster, even popped along to the London Aquatics Centre to support the timed swimming event.

The Better Club Games aim to encourage those with more years behind them to stay active, highlighting the social and physical benefits of getting involved in sport – and it’s safe to say, we could all learn a thing or two from these over 55’s proving that age is nothing but a number.

Congratulations to all who took part and don’t forget to look out for these sporting stars next time you’re at the Rainbow Leisure Centre.
