Coffee With a Smile

A chat with the owners of Senzo reveals their passion for a great cup of coffee and the importance of
a warm welcome.

Senzo

You opened a café next door to Costa – aka ‘The nations favourite coffee chain’ – are you mad?
Ha ha, no! We never had the ambition of becoming anything close to ‘The nations favourite coffee chain’ or anything like that – just Epsom’s friendliest. We really care about coffee, innovation and community, so when we discovered that Epsom didn’t have an independent speciality coffee shop, we decided to open one. We’ve been here since December 2016 and haven’t looked back!

How are you better than the big chains?
Our coffee is served based on ancient traditions, and we enjoy serving our customers, making it table service for everyone. It’s heart-warming to see people spending proper time enjoying our coffee, asking us questions about it, rather than just buying a take away and running off. Our busy lives shouldn’t be so busy that we can’t sit for a while and take a moment.

What’s been the best moment so far?
There are so many, but when a random passer-by stops for a coffee and then returns for more, becoming a regular, that’s always lovely! Our baristas get up early every morning to give 100 per cent against the big boys of the coffee business, and it really shows in our coffee.

Tell us a secret
We’ve got a soft play area hidden away at the back, it would be lovely to let more people know about it – we think it’s the only one in the area!
